Quicken 98Back

Maintaining your Quicken data file.

Your data file is where Quicken stores all the information that you enter. Keeping this file safe will stop you from having to re-enter data. Financial data is particularly precious and backups can often save a significant amount of time and money.

Make Regular Backups
Regular backups are important - if you do happen to experience a data problem or unforeseen disaster then you will have copies you can easily restore and continue working with. FOD number 2613 "How to backup and restore" is available on the Automated Fax Back Service to help you make backups and restore them if necessary.

Address problems as they arise
Addressing any problems and queries as and when they happen is the best way to stop a problem in its tracks. You can "Validate" your Quicken data file which will help identify damaged transactions. To "Validate" your data follow these steps from within Quicken:

  • Click on File on the Menu bar
  • Choose Validate from the File Operations menu item
  • Select your data file to Validate and click on OK

Remember to note down any error messages you get exactly as they are shown on screen, the Technical Support team will need these messages in order to try to help solve your queries. FOD NUMBER 2810 "How to repair a damaged data file" is available from the automated fax back service.

Ensuring that your Data is stored on your hard drive. Always ensure that your data file is stored on your hard drive (commonly known as the C:\ drive) and not within a shared or network environment or on floppy disk.

Best regards,
Technical Support
