Quicken 98Back

Why do I keep getting the message "Please insert a data disk in drive A:" when I try to run Quicken?

Whenever you exit Quicken it always keeps a note of the file you were last working with and tries to open the same file when you go back into Quicken. So if you were last working from a floppy, then it will ask you to insert a data disk in drive A.

If you wish to open a file on the hard drive then follow the instructions below. Otherwise just insert the floppy disk that contains your Quicken data file to continue working.

  1. When you get the message to insert a data disk in drive A, click the Cancel button.
  2. When the Quicken "New User Setup" window appears click the Cancel button.
  3. Click Yes to the message "Are you sure you want to leave setup?"
  4. Click on File on the menu bar and then Click Open.
  5. Select the relevant drive and the folder that contains your Quicken data file.
  6. Click on the file you want to open then Click the OK button.
NOTE: It is recommended that you store your data file on your hard drive. Storing your data file on floppy disk and accessing that file from the floppy disk can more easily result in data damage or loss. You should only use floppy disks to make backups of your Quicken data file.
