How to enter a Privatisation Share Issue.

Overview

Privatisation share issues involve an initial payment followed by subsequent installments.

Procedure

Step 1: The Initial purchase

• Start Quicken.
• Go to the List menu, select Account and then choose the investment account you wish to track the privatisation with.
• Start a new transaction with date of the purchase and select the action Buy. Enter the price and number of shares.

Step 2: The first and subsequent installments

• Open Investment Account.
• Select Action menu and then select RtrnCap.
• Select the Security and Investment account and then enter the amount of the installment in the amount box but as a Negative amount.

NB The Return of Capital command is used to record Money paid back to you as a return on your investment. Using this command with a negative amount will not effect the number or value of your shares but will increase the amount invested.
