Quicken 2002, XG, 2004Back

How do I make a copy of my Quicken data file in Microsoft® Windows®?

We recommend creating a backup from within Quicken rather than copying your data file in Windows. Creating a backup from within the program ensures that the entire data file set is copied, which is necessary for the data file copy to function correctly.

If for some reason you are unable to create a copy using the normal backup procedure:

  • Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking Start on the Windows taskbar, and then choosing Explore.
  • Browse to the location (folder) of your Quicken data file, and then double-click to open the folder. If you do not know the location:
    • Open the Quicken File menu by clicking File in the upper left corner of the program.
    • The locations of recently opened Quicken data files are located near the bottom of the menu (for example, C:\Quickenw\Qdata). Make a note of the location up to, but not including, the last backslash (\).
    • Enter the location you noted above into the Address field in Windows Explorer (this would be C:\Quickenw in the previous example) and then press Enter.
  • While holding down the Ctrl key, click the .qdf, .qsd, .qel and .qph files to select them.
Note: The .qel and .qph files will not appear if you do not use online banking or track investment information.
  • Right-click one of the files you selected and choose Copy.
  • Browse to the folder you want to copy the data file set to, select it, and then choose Paste.
