How do I configure Quicken to connect to the Internet?

Quicken has a new Internet client (the portion of the program that controls Internet access) that uses Microsoft® Windows® settings to determine how to connect to the Internet. As a result, there is no need to run the Internet connection setup.

However, when accessing Internet features, if the connection is not recognized or the wrong connection is being dialed, the Internet connection setup can be configured manually:

Solution

  • From the Quicken Edit menu, choose Preferences, and then choose Internet Connection Setup.
  • In the Internet Connection Setup window there are several choices:
    • Selecting Use the following connection will prompt the Quicken program to open the selected connection when the Internet is accessed.
Note: The Quicken program's ability to detect and open a dialer relies upon the dialer being either a standard dialing software package, or a valid Dial Up Networking (DUN) connection that has a saved password. If the Quicken program does not detect the dialer, select Other Internet connection and ensure that the connection opens outside of Quicken prior to accessing any Internet features in Quicken.
    • Selecting Use my computer's Internet connection settings to establish a connection when this application accesses the Internet will activate whatever settings have been configured in Microsoft Windows (specifically those in Internet Explorer). This choice should be used for direct style connections such as LAN, DSL, Broadband, and so on, but could also be used to open a DUN connection as long as the user name and password are saved.
Note: If you are using a free Internet Service Provider (ISP), select Other Internet connection, and then manually open the connection outside of Quicken before accessing any Internet features in the Quicken program. This is sometimes necessary because DUN connections for these services generally cannot be used to access the service without using the connection software provided by the free ISP.
    • Selecting I do not have a way to connect to the Internet. Please give me more information on setting up an Internet account. will open the Microsoft Internet Wizard to assist you with setting up an Internet account.
  • After you have selected one of the above, click Next, and then click Done.
