Quicken 2002, XG, 2004Back

What should I do when I get the message "Cannot validate file", "Unable to validate data file", "Unable to open file" or "Can't open file" when converting my data file?

Background: The message "Cannot validate data file", "Unable to validate data file" "Unable to open file" or "Can't open file" may occur when converting your data file from an earlier version of Quicken, if either of the following conditions exist:

Your Quicken data file is on a floppy disk and there is not enough space on the disk for the conversion process.

OR

Your Quicken file is on the hard drive and your data has minor data damage that occurred in the earlier version of Quicken and needs to be repaired prior to converting to the current version. You will need to install the earlier version of Quicken if it is no longer on your computer, repair your data file, and then convert the file.

Solution: If these messages occur when you are opening the file, and not converting it, please see Unable to open selected file or Data losses were found in your file when opening your file FAQ here">Cannot or unable to validate or open data file when opening.
