Quicken 2002, XG, 2004Back

Why does converting my files take so long, or how come Quicken doesn't respond at all?

Background: The time it takes to convert your Quicken data file to a newer version varies depending on your system and the size and contents of your file. During the conversion process, it may appear that Quicken is not responding. As the file converts, your mouse pointer will turn into an hourglass briefly and then back to a pointer.

Solution: If Quicken has stopped responding during the conversion, there may be damage within your data file. It will be necessary to perform some maintenance on your file prior to converting it to a newer version of Quicken. Follow the steps below to revert back to the earlier version of Quicken, restore and repair data:

Uninstall the new version of Quicken.

Reinstall the prior version of Quicken.

Restore a backup of your Quicken data file. If you do not have a backup, you can use the automatic backup that Quicken created as a safeguard prior to converting your file. The automatic backup will be located within the Quicken directory in a subdirectory named based on the version you are converting from:

Quicken 98: Q98files

Quicken 2000: Q00files

Quicken 2001: Q01files

Quicken 2002: Q02files

Repair any data file corruption.

Install the new version of Quicken.

Convert the repaired data file.
