How do I upgrade data files from an earlier version of Quicken?

Background: There are few ways you can upgrade your data file, if you have an earlier version of Quicken

Solution: If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Quicken on the same computer, complete the following steps.

Install your new version of Quicken.

The first time Quicken is opened after installation, it will look for the last data file that was used in your earlier version of Quicken. Once this data file is found, Quicken steps you through a conversion process. If you have any additional files other than the one that was last used in your earlier version, follow these steps to update them:

On the File menu, select Open.

In the File name box, type the name of the file you want to update, or Browse to locate it, and then click OK.

At the message indicating that you are about to convert the file, click Yes.

If your earlier version of Quicken or the data file are on a different computer than the version you are upgrading to, or if your file is located on a removable disk such as a floppy or ZIP disk, complete the following steps.

Back up your data file on the computer where your old version of Quicken, or data files, are located.

Install your new version of Quicken.

Restore the backup file on the computer where your new version of Quicken is located.

Open Quicken and then your data file, by choosing Open from the File menu, and then selecting the correct file.

Note: After upgrading your file to a newer version of Quicken, you will no longer be able to use it with your earlier version of Quicken. As a safeguard, Quicken automatically backs up your data file prior to updating. Therefore, if you need to go back to your previous version of Quicken, you will have a backup file that is still usable with that version. Your backup files will be located in the following subdirectories, based on the version of Quicken you are updating from. These subdirectories are located within your current Quicken directory.
