Quicken 2002, XG, 2004Back

Can I make a Quicken data file smaller and more manageable?

Background: The Copy File feature lets you copy all or part of a Quicken file, making your data file smaller and more manageable. The Copy File feature copies the memorized transaction list, transaction groups, and category/class list. Transactions in a specified date range are also copied.

Solution: The Copy File feature is useful, if the following conditions exist:

Your data file contains multiple years of data requiring separation, or

You want to start a new file and include your current data for a new fiscal year.

Performing a Copy File

To copy all or part of a Quicken file, perform the following procedure.

In Quicken, from the File menu select File Operations and click Copy.

Quicken automatically creates a new filename for you by placing CPY at the end of your original file name. To change this file name, re-type the name for the new file. For example, if the file is named QDATACPY, you might name the new file QDATA02.

Select a date range for which transactions are to be copied.

(Optional) Select "Include All Prior Uncleared Transactions" to copy unreconciled amounts that occur prior to the date selected.

(Optional) Select "Include All Prior Investment Transactions" to copy all investment information that occurs prior to the date selected.

Click OK

After the file is copied, click New Copy, then OK.

Your new data file is smaller than the original data file because when a copy file is performed, space occupied by deleted transactions becomes available.
