How do I add a password to an account?

Background: Individual accounts within a Quicken data file cannot be password protected.

The types of passwords that can be set up within Quicken are:

A data file password, which must be correctly entered before a Quicken file can be opened.

A transaction password, which must be correctly entered before transactions recorded before a certain date can be changed.

Note: The passwords mentioned here are referring to those associated with the Quicken program, not those used for Online Banking. For assistance with an Online Banking password or PIN, please contact your financial institution.

Solution:

To provide a file password:

From the File menu, point to Passwords, and click File.

Type the password in the Password box. This password can be up to 16 characters, including spaces. Quicken does not distinguish between upper-case and lower-case characters.

For confirmation, re-type the password in the Confirm Password box.

Click OK.

To add a password to a transaction:

From the File menu, point to Passwords, then click transaction.

Type the same password in the Password and Confirm Password boxes. The password field will accept up to 16 characters, including spaces. Quicken does not distinguish between upper-case and lower-case characters.

Enter the date of the last transaction you want the password to apply to.

Click OK.
