Quicken 2002, XG, 2004Back

Why am I unable to open the Printer Setup window from the Quicken File menu?

Possible Cause: The Printer Setup window may not open for the following reasons:

  • Quicken was not installed completely.
  • There is damage to the printer driver.
  • There is damage to the wpr.dat file.

Solution

To resolve this issue:

  • Uninstall Quicken, and then restart your computer.
  • Reinstall Quicken, and then try opening the Printer Setup window.
  • If the issue persists, click the Start button on the Microsoft Windows taskbar, choose Settings, and then choose Printers.
  • Right-click a printer that you use with Quicken, choose Delete, and then click Yes.
  • If necessary, repeat the previous step for other printers that you use with Quicken.
  • Double-click the Add Printer or Add New Printer icon and then follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall the printer(s) you deleted in the previous steps.
Note: Please have your Windows installation CD and your printer installation CD or disk(s) available, as you may be prompted to insert these during reinstallation.
  • Try opening the Printer Setup window again. If the issue persists, exit Quicken and then try the following:
    • Search for the file wpr.dat.
    • Once located, right-click the file and choose Rename.
    • Change the filename extension from dat to old, and then press Enter.
    • Restart Quicken.

Note: Renaming the wpr.dat file will reset your Quicken printer settings and is only a temporary solution. It is likely that another program running on your computer is causing damage to this file. If so, please be aware that we are unable to provide support for issues caused by non-Intuit software.

  • For additional assistance, we recommend that you check with:
    • Your system or network administrator (if you have one).
